Wow, I'm finding this interesting.

My size tire is going to be cut quite a bit in the next few months. I've been tire shopping for spring, and there is going to be quite a few less choices.

Pretty much what is comes down to- in my size 195/70/14, nothing but cheapie tires (pretty close, anyways)

I guess I should have saw it coming. Who buys nice tires for a cavalier, anyways?

Just a few tires I found to be "discountinued":

Goodyear assurance/ Tripletreads
Kelly Nav Golds
the whole republic line
Cooper CS4s
BFG traction TAs (but not Sam's touring TAs)
Mich Hyroedge

There is a few more, but I can't remember them all at the moment....

Get some nearly free rims in any size you want(15"x6" or 16"x6" lets say), and then feel free to spend lots of money for tires.
If the stock size is being discontinued you might be able to get a good deal on them?

Had really good luck with pirelli p4 bought through discounttiredirect. Superior ride handling and wear. Best purchase in a decade!

Well, this size is as far from sporty as it can possibly get... huge profile, small rim diameter. I don't think anyone requires any performance in this size. Economy car tire size = economy tire. I'm not saying this to offend anyone, but that's probably how the manufacturers see it. If anyone wants better performance, they will upgrade to larger rim diameter, and this will result in lower tire profile and thus bigger selection of better tires.

I have touring T/A's on my malibu. They have pretty good wet traction. mine are 4 years old and have 22k and I just got them rotated front to back yesterday. I think they should last another 20k and all 4 should be shot about the same time.

I did research and got traction TA's on my cavalier when it came time for new ones. But I have to say I was impressed with Touring TA's before that.

I just did a search on tire rack for a crown vic, and Advantage TA's were barely below michelins. Not sure if they come in that size.

GYs are gone, as are the nooks...and the green x are also going-noticed that on TR....


I may have to rush a set of the traction TAs before they go...

Though I could still go for the K21s,P4s or the X radials.

The nicer cavs have 15" with 195/65/15s.

This thread is a nice contrast to people buying new economy cars with 18" rims then complaining about the price of tires.

I like the ride of a cavalier, there's something to be said for not knocking your kidneys around on railroad tracks. Maybe in ten years skinny tires will be the new fad... like men's ties.

Very true....compared to everyone else, It is nice to be able to get the best set of tires made for like 500 bucks..

Are you sure? Note for the Goodyear, I said ComforTred, not TripleTred. It does look like the TT is nearly gone, but the CT is noted as "In Stock". Also, the Michelin HydroEdge looks to be closed out, but their new version, the HydroEdge Green X is noted as "In Stock".

You are right, though, about the Hankooks, I overlooked that.

Yep, there are still some left.


I e-mailed GY about the tire size, and the CTs are done in the spring.


The only tire that will be left in my size by the end of the year will be the Kelly Explorer Plus. That's it.


I find it funny that the green x just came out, and they haven't sold ONE set in that size yet (talked to a TR rep).Hence, they also will be gone too....
