But if it DID seal dry, don't you think it would almost certainly seal wet?

If it didn't seal dry....Who knows?

Regardless, a few dry starts won't kill your engine.

I can tell you the brands I've heard the most complaints about start-up noise (M1 and K&N) are the ones I can almost always blow air through the ADBV in the stores. Good enough correlation for me to spend my money elsewhere.
The ADBV seals or it doesn't. No excuses or overthinking it about hot oil trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

An air leak...MIGHT seal with oil. Not good enough for me.

My 2 cents.

I think mentioned it before, but you blow through the outlet hole to make the determination?

Yes I try to find the best sealing examples. The latest Mobil 1's I tried seal nicely. Maybe they fixed the problem. I hope so...Like those filters.

If you suck, you would need to close your lips around the whole end of the filter and place your tongue in the center hole, then suck and see if you can feel the draw on your tongue.
If you do this, please post a picture.

... yeah, I can just imagine someone with the whole base of the filter in their mouth. If that was the case, you couldn't even get any flow through the filter anyway, because the center hole would be blocked. You'd have to have some time of crazy mechanical apparatus that connects to the center hole and goes up through your sinuses and out your nose so you could actually suck air through the filter. Sounds like a new circus act or new torture device ...

Anyway, yes ... blowing air into the center hole will tell you if the ADBV is sealing or not. If it seals with air, it will definitely seal with oil. Sucking on the center hole will tell you if the ADBV is opening or not.
