Subway calls ‘emergency’ meeting with franchisees as sales plummet

I eat Subway maybe 4-5 times a year and the food is OK. I notice they expanded their menu. Cookies very good.

Lots of consumers cutting back on eating out and franchise owners say the profit margins are less today than 5 years ago.
They are the only chain type fast food in our town. I occasionally eat there since it's right across the street. Pricing is killing them IMO. I avoid it unless I have coupons because it's just far too expensive.

Many cities either outright ban franchises or severally restrict them. However- it seems that subway is the exception.

Cannot understand how they just can't seem to get their bread right. It's not great. Corporate gave each store a meat slicing machine-the owners don't like them-they say it increases labor cost. I mean they wouldn't want a little fresher meat for their sandwiches....
The issue is there are far better sandwiches elsewhere now...they used to be the only game.

Rarely eat there. Was never "great" but miles ahead of McD's.

These days I'm more apt to stop at a grocery store. Often they have sandwiches, for a so-so price. Get some seltzer, and anything that we actually need (if it's on the return trip home). Much happier than "fast" food.

10 or more years ago I would eat there 5-8 times a month, now not even that much in a year.

I still think it taste ok (I almost always get the cheese steak) but the price has gone sky high. For the same price I can go to a sit down place and be served better food even when you include the tip.
