Always use the Honda fluids. They are designed to be compatible with your Honda. Change them more frequently, if you wish, but use only Honda fluids.

Apparently you haven't gotten the memo? (or read the countless other threads on Z1 substitutes)

Joel

Maybe you haven't gotten the memo? The dealer is less likely to pickup up a porion of the cost of your transmission rebuild, should it fail, if you are not using the prescribed fluids. Oh,wait! You're the guy who just voided his 2008 Hundai warranty, aren't you? So,please;Don't presume to advise me.

So I presume you've got lots of data to support Honda and Hyundai transmissions will fail from using "suitable for use where Z1 or SP-III is spec'd" aftermarket ATFs? No? Didn't think so.

FZ1,

You say that Honda fluids are the best b/c they'll help you not have to pay 100% when the AT fails prematurely? Yes, I do understand that it is typically an oil flow issue, but still, that's pretty funny.

Edit: To add something of value (hopefully) to the thread, you can also run RLI ATF. I have many used oil analysis posted here of said fluid (along with AMSOIL ATF).

I see that you like deflection. So, the irony is lost on you? Yes or no?

Yes, at 130k miles the transmission has a whine. However, it has not failed. I bet most wouldn't notice it as it gets gradual throughout the car's life. And your point is... b/c I don't see one. It appears to be just more blabbering from you with nothing to back it up.

How do you void an entire mfg warranty in the consumer automotive market? If I pour sand in my engine, they still have to fix the radio if it fails under warranty.

that is a common problem with v-6 hondas that have only z1. so it can not be attributed to a "suitable for" fluid. mike

Mike, I know of countless Odyssey owners who have drained/filled/flushed to "suitable for" ATFs for years w/out issue?

Joel

I'm one of the ones that had a very slight whine from the day I took delivery of the car. It's something the normal person would not notice. At around 20K I switched to Amsoil ATF and then to ATD. The whine is quieter now at 80k than it was when new. 80k is nothing to brag about but in the Honda auto trans world it's not too bad and the shift quality is great. I honestly think it would be a challenge to find a worse fluid than Z1.

Deflection? No. Just clarifying your credentials as a guy who has a bad transmission that is giving transmission advice.

You do realize that my advice is from Terry don't you? Please feel free to list your credentials. Also, be sure to include your STLE #. If you need to do a little reading on STLE, you can find it here.

BTW, I'll ask my question again, since you apparently do like deflection, despite your answer to the contrary. So, is the irony lost on you? Yes or no? I'll even repeat the statement here for convenience.

I agree it's pretty funny that you have spent 1/2 the cost of a new transmission on "advice" and quite expensive fluids on you "quest for the best".....and you are the one with transmission whine and lots of metal in your oil. BTW,I never said the Honda ATF was the best, did I?

1/2 the cost of a new transmission? You're not real good at math are you? And even then, that is not relevant as this should be a technical site & discussion. I am on the quest to keep my transmission as healthy as long as possible. What is your quest? Finding your way back home under the bridge?

I missed your reply to the credentials of the advice. I see that you put advice in quotes. Do you have something to refute Terry's advice & expert opinion? Care to comment on that or do you enjoy being a troll too much?

You say that Z1 is the best fluid to use so that the dealer might help pick up part of the cost of a rebuilt transmission. Therefore, your advice is to use Z1. Are you recommending to use inferior fluids on an oil site?

Lots of metal in my oil? Compared to what? Define "lots".

Still no comment on the warranty issue...

Here,I'll help you out of your small minded, need to control every aspect of your detailed, little life. My comment, reworded for you,was that Dealers help their Best Customers,Even when the Warranty is Expired! So if you are a Good Customer of the dealer, the dealer is more likely to help you on Any Matter re your car:Warranty or Not. That's why I spend my car repair and maintenance money with my dealer. It's called Business. Have a nice day.
