Substitute for Mercron V??

2002 ford ranger 4x4 4L. calls for mercron V. I'm wondering if there is a better substitute or to just go with the mercron v. Would mobil 1 atf work for this application?

MerconV is an excellent fluid.

Amsoil/Redline/SpecialtyFormulations have a better ATF for you if thats what you want.

Mobil 1 ATF will need an MV convertor.
Run-rite, Lubegard, Smart-blend make fluid convertors.
