Hey guys. This is my first post to the forum! I recently bought a new subaru forester and I'm coming up on my first oil change (was going to do it at 750 miles, then start the regular service schedule at 3750).

So i've been reading all I can about oil filters and oil for the Subaru 2.5L 4cyl. I think I'm going to stick with dino oil, as I don't really want to spend the money on synthetic. So far I've also learned (at least I think I remember reading it somewhere) that the Subaru Dealer oil filters are made by purolator? Anyone know anything about these filters - weather or not they are just a re-packaged premium plus or pure one?

Any other advice on filters? I like the idea of the pure one filter and it's filtration efficiency, but I'm a little nervous about flow restriction. Anyone know if there are any suitable oversize pure one filters for the Subaru?

Thanks.

I don't know if Purolator makes filters for Subaru. Buy one from the dealer and see if it looks identical to a Purolator.

Several years ago Purolator and Denso had joint ownership in the Purodenso filter plant in Tennessee. Denso has since bought out Purolator's interest in that plant. I think the main customers for the plant are Japanese auto factories in the U.S. This old Purodenso operation may be the reason for the rumor about Purolator making filters for Japanese cars.

Hi,
I think your choice of vehicle is a very good one

I have a MY02 Subaru Outback 2.5 manual. It now has nearly 100kkms ( 62k miles )on it and still has the original tyres fitted

The OEM "Subaru" air and filters are of good quality and would be a good choice, I certainly use then
My car is on Mobil Delvac 1 5w-40 synthetic which is great ( and cost effective ) in this vehicle. They do have long OC intervals anyway
as they are easy on oils so it is a breeze to go to an annual or 20000kkm ( 12000 miles )OC with this product

Welcome to this Board and its band of good contributors

Regards

I don't suppose anyone knows where I can find any hard data, such as filter efficiencies / flow rates / bypass setting for the subaru OEM filters?
