Hi to all,
I am a new member and I recently purchased a used but in excellent condition sti my 2004. It's lightly modified with intake full decaf exhaust and ecu remap ecutek. It outputs app, 350 hp . I live in Greece where our Climate is rather hot e.g. 5 Celsius minimum at winter and and very hot e.g. 30-45 Celsius at summer. Subaru suggests
5w30 oil full synthetic (not suitable for me I think) and
10w40 oil full synthetic which I currently use.

The previous owner used shell ultra racing 10w 60 and he told me that it was the best as oil pressure was ok e.g. 6 psi and also during summer got days this oil was the proper for many reasons.

I've read your thread about Subaru Impreza sti but I haven't figured out. Do you think I could safely use 10w 60 for my car? And if so, how often should I change it ?
PS I don't go to track I only use my car as a daily car and I race it only at highways sometimes
Thanx for your patience, looking forward to your feedback

I owned a WRX. My owners manual stated the use of a heavier viscosity is recommended for driving certain conditions. The viscosities they stated to use were outdated IMO such as 10W50 and a few others.
5W40 was popular when I owned mine. I think as long as you use something that meets the Porsche A40 spec, you'll be fine.

5w30/5w40/10w40 i would use. no need for a 60imo. any 3 of those will work year round. even a 10w60 will, but a 60 seems overkill for daily use

I would just stick with 10W40. If you have a built engine with bearing clearances that call for it, then a 50 grade might be appropriate. Open class rally cars use 15W50 so I definitely do not see the need for a 10W60.

5W40 synths are very popular for those cars in the US, I'd think with your very warm climate you are making a great choice in using a 10W40 synth.
If you're not tracking the car, a 10W60 sounds like major overkill.

OPA!!!!

OP, I used 15w50 Mobil 1 on most heavily modified turbocharged cars I owned. I would stick with full synthetic 10w40 or if you can find Mobil 1 15w50 for a decent price in Greece, it would be an excellent choice for a old STI out of warranty with the wick turned up in your climate.

Thank you very much guys, I guess I shall stick with a 10w40 fully synthetic. Motul 300V 10w40 that I currently use says on the can that the oil is ester based...Is this good or bad? Is the ester based motul full synthetic ? Thanx very much,

PS I don't know anything about oils

Motul is a brand that many US Subaru turbo modders think very highly of, and I'd say that ester based is probably a good thing.
I think you're making a fine choice!
