The "Subaru" oil filter I bought at the Markham Subaru dealership last week was unmistakeably Fram. The price was lower, though, than when they were Purolators.

Was it labeled "Subaru" on the filter itself? Or is this just what the dealer is now selling in lieu of "official" Subaru filters to increase their profits?

That's unfortunate. I'd still recommend an autopsy to be sure of the construction of the internals. Fram does make a line of more robust filters (not that I'd trust them but...).

It was the same white can as the ones sold at Canadian Tire, but with Subaru markings on it. It was shrink wrapped in plastic, with a few drops of oil near the threads, just like the CT ones. And I could see the white plastic button of the ADB valve inside. It's working fine.

I use their extended guard and love them.
