I bought a new Coleman 5000 watt gen 2 years ago and was wondering how good, or bad, is the 10 horse Subaru engine on this generator. Do you know the makeup of the internals of the engine? Like is the engine sleaved, type of bearings, etc.

A trim carpenter I used had one that he picked up at Home Depot and has some serious hours on it. He had a little hour meter on it, like maybe 600 or so hours. Seemed to run fine with a large table saw hooked to it. I would think that it is well built.

Robine engines are equivalent or better than the Honda GX engines, which are superior to the Honda GC engines.

For low-quality fuel flexibility, a flathead B&S is superior, but not in any other metric. They do last forever too, though.

From my experience the Honda-GX/Kawasaki/Robbins-Suburu/B&S Vanguard-Dhatsu are all top drawer engines.

Commercial build. Iron Sleeved. Heavy duty bearings.

All should run up to 1000 hours with real good care.

My Dad has an Echo generator (5,500W) with a Robin engine. Has about 2,500 hours on it and still runs strong. Used either SAE 30 or 15w40 regular oil.
