Subaru front brakes with anti rattle finger

Doing front brakes on wife's Crosstrek. New Akebono pads have some kind of tension or anti rattle finger. It's next to the wear scraper. It's kind of in the way. Makes pads pop out of the caliper bracket as I am trying to get both pads in there.

Does this little anti rattle finger go between the SS clip and caliper bracket or on other side of the SS clip towards the center of wheel.

It also easily bends. PIA.

It's the piece of metal to the right of the wear scraper. I assume what is on left is wear scraper.

There's like 3 different front calipers mounted on the XV mk2, please check that the shape of the pads and position of the wear indicator is rigourously the same, otherwise it's the wrong pads. If pads are right (which I doubt from what I've seen in parts catalogs), cut the fingers or remove the indicator entirely.

The old pads have the exact wear indicator and the extra little thingie as new pads.

I'm not sure of their purpose. I vaguely remember the Power Stops I put on my Forester a few years ago had them. I think the end of the "finger" rests against the caliper bracket or maybe the clip that fits into the braket. I had to bend them just a little bit so they went into the proper spot. I bet if you install the pad onto the bracket with the hardware you will figure it out.

It seems the SS clips have a surface for the little thingie to ride on. Otherwise the little thingie rides against the cast iron of the caliper. So one needs to sort out the pads and clips to make sure you get the right clip where it will have a surface for the little thingie to ride on.

Very difficult to put both pads in caliper bracket and then bolt on the caliper bracket.

I installed the inside pad, held it in place and then bolted the caliper bracket to the hub and then put in outside pad.

It slides on one of the support ledges, there’s a little tang for it. It’s hard to describe. You’ll see it.
