Others did post about the toyota variant though, and it is fair game, it IS the same car.

Where did I say that I hate toyotas? I didnt. Youre wasting bandwidth.

Let's face it, they're the same car-albeit with some sheet metal differences and minor suspension tweaks--so it makes sense to discuss them both. I imagine that most/many people who aren't brand fanboys who are considering one are taking a "wait and see" approach, but they both look awesome to me.

So your post about the Toyota sheeple is basically meaningless to what this thread is about, which is the Subaru version.

Now, if I posted a link to the Toyota car, and you then said something like "it's a Subaru BRZ, but they slap a Toyota badge on the front and I bet it outsells the Subaru version two to one, because people who drive Toyotas are sheeple" than that might be a relative post to make.

Of course, if that was something you posted, I might say something like "People who hate Toyota are also sheeple."

FWIW, I didn't read into JHZR2's post the way you did. I didn't get an "I hate Toyota" vibe, that is.

If we wanted to see how Toyota vs. Subaru sales might go, I'd look to the Matrix/Vibe clone and see how much the "Toyota" badge means to buyers - despite the higher price of the Matrix and superior warranty with the Vibe.

Well, if you want to talk about wasting bandwith, just look at your first post in this thread.

sorry you feel that way, but when the only constructive thing some has to add is this: "Toyota adds their badge and sheeple will buy.", then I'm going to call this out for the ridiculous comment that it is. It's like BMW coming out with a cool 2-door coupe, and me saying "lots of middle-aged guys who are more concerned about status that performance are lining up!". It's ridiculous, IMO. I'm more concerned about the car than people's motives for buying it.

It should do well, whichever variant.
There's a sad shortage of small rear drive cars from which to choose. Outside of the heavier BMW 1 series there are no small rwd front engine coupes that I can think of.
The only subjective criticism I have is it's generic oriental looks it looks don't enthrall me.

Agreed. And not to waste any more bandwidth, but it wasn't constructive.

But if it proves true, then what?

There was a discussion on here sometime back about how matrix aftermarket values were holding up better than vibes. I think it was also the case in the corolla/prism days.

Wonder why?

Again, doesnt make this a bad car, or that type of marketing decision a bad one. If it sells more, then it sells more. Let's face it, Toyota owns some of Subaru/Fuji. If they get a better return becuase Subaru is building/selling more cars, then good for all, its a win-win. If slapping some toyota badges onto cars brings more potential buyers, its a win. But it is still laughable that some folks will buy on the logic of whose badge is on a car.

Ill bet there were a lot of folks who would never have considered an Isuzu, who bought Honda Passports too... And lots of folks who thought they were "upscale" when they bought a Cimmaron instead of a Cavalier... ES350 instead of a Camry V6, etc.

Its just funny, and nothing wrong with that.

Love this line:

Quote:
Despite the fact that Toyota made great attempts to market the Cavalier to Japanese buyers, the Japanese public was not impressed with the quality of workmanship, typically expected of cars sold in Japan.

LOL!

Except that there just aren't enough of us to even be considered sheeple in this country nowadays (unlike the vast majority of the lemming masses).

^^^^THIS!

Or if one MUST HAVE an import nameplate (and does not like the Datsun Z), and dosen't mind four doors, the current WRX (stripped down as much as possible) is a MUCH better (all-weather) performance option for the same coin.

Less 'tossable', yes, but a better value overall.

Now if one has the old Corolla AE-86 drifting fantasies, or is looking to win the SCCA D/Stock (or wherever they put this thing) Solo national championships, then yes, it might just be your car.

2,700 pound curb weight
Resale value

Its not always about straight line power. This car is going to be fun to toss around the track.

Of course it's not always about straight line power, but it's a factor along with everything else (price included). I'm not lamenting its power level, especially if it turns out to be a really great handler (poor man's Lotus).

I am surprised this car isn't getting more attention. How many times have folks pined for something small and light and RWD? We're not even getting the Toyota version here...only the Subaru and Scion versions.

This car looks like a real hoot to me.

To me, Subaru and AWD just go together. That is why I wouldn't be interested.

This car does sound like fun, but I would love to see a turbo version, and I would love to see what a 300HP turbo version does to the people who restore a 240SX with an SR20DET.

And yet Subaru used to make many non-AWD vehicles.
