I take care of my 77yo mom's 2009 subaru tribeca. There appears to be no coolant in the overflow tank. It appears to be a blue color. Is there an aftermarket one I can buy to top it up? It appears to be slightly under the radiator cap level when cold, which is probably fine, but would like a bit in the overflow tank to pull as winter is coming. 16k kms on the 11yo car.

Walmart has Zerex Asian Blue. It will probably be the best price you can get on coolant you'd actually want to use in your Subaru

Zerex Asian blue; and keep an eye out for leaks.
Fill the radiator and reservoir while cold.
Then start the engine and watch closely for drips while it warms up.
I've seen water pumps that leak a little then stop during warm up.
