Stunned by Mecum Auction

I heard an odd noise yesterday while perusing this website . From the window behind my computer I spied a very large truck right in front of my house. The driver very carefully unloaded this car right next to my driveway. Stunned that my wife might have bought it for me at a Mecum Auction. Unfortunately it was delivered a couple of doors down my street. This is the exact car from the auction. It had an impressive 'lope' from the cam. Appeared to be original condition excecpt for a fresh set of Firestone Wide Ovals.

Couldn't have been more surprised if a pink elephant had sauntered by.

Polycast honeycombs. They were a urethane insert glued onto steel wheels. Well, also molded into the slots of the wheels when cast. They chose this method as casting the wheel in aluminum would be too expensive. They debuted in 1971 on the GTO and could be had on the Grand Ams too. Red arrow logos on the center caps appeared the following year. Former neighbor was a crazed GOAT fan and told me all about those wheels and how they were made. Funny, the things you remember.

Originality is great, except on tires if you intend to drive the car. Leave those Firestone Wide Oval belted bias ply tires for garage queens, put on some Ultra High Performance Michelins or Continentals if you intend to drive it.
