I heard an odd noise yesterday while perusing this website . From the window behind my computer I spied a very large truck right in front of my house. The driver very carefully unloaded this car right next to my driveway. Stunned that my wife might have bought it for me at a Mecum Auction. Unfortunately it was delivered a couple of doors down my street. This is the exact car from the auction. It had an impressive 'lope' from the cam. Appeared to be original condition excecpt for a fresh set of Firestone Wide Ovals.

Couldn't have been more surprised if a pink elephant had sauntered by.

Gorgeous car. Blue is never my favorite but it looks great. Don't remember those wheels.

Impressed you thought your wife might have surprised you. Better keep her.
Polycast honeycombs. They were a urethane insert glued onto steel wheels. Well, also molded into the slots of the wheels when cast. They chose this method as casting the wheel in aluminum would be too expensive. They debuted in 1971 on the GTO and could be had on the Grand Ams too. Red arrow logos on the center caps appeared the following year. Former neighbor was a crazed GOAT fan and told me all about those wheels and how they were made. Funny, the things you remember.

Originality is great, except on tires if you intend to drive the car. Leave those Firestone Wide Oval belted bias ply tires for garage queens, put on some Ultra High Performance Michelins or Continentals if you intend to drive it.

Yes sir! I almost got myself killed around 2009 driving on old "oem tires."

Like a fool I took off from home to drive a 140mi round trip to our Super Chevy Show. On the way I caught myself several times doing 70 to 80mph on the interstate in the 76 Chevelle I had at the time.

On the way home one of those .... over ten year old Uniroyal Tiger Paws exploded on interstate. Luckily I made it off without flipping or getting piled into. The tire blow out did over $5500 damage. I am very thankful I had taken someone's advice and had JC Taylor Classic / Antique Car insurance.

My Chevelle was in the local GM Dealership's shop for 6 months and about $5500 to $6000 worth of repairs. Glad I knew several at the dealership who had worked on that same model and year Chevelle who agreed to take on the job.
So, Nearly destroyed my car and almost got killed using old tires. (I knew better!) 🫣

LOL! Couldn't have been more surprised by an elephant! I totally understand. (y)
That is beauty. I am on the fence if I think it is a "survivor" or a total "resto" job. What makes it difficult to tell is that amazing paint job on the Goat.
