SOUTH OGDEN, Utah - A man test-driving a used vehicle found it worked just fine as a getaway-car after he allegedly held up a bank.

The auto salesman who had accompanied him Monday was standing outside the car when the unidentified man came out of Wells Fargo Bank with a bag of money and drove off alone.

South Ogden Police Chief Val Shupe said the robber entered the bank around 3:15 p.m., and demanded a teller put money in the bag he was carrying. He said he had a gun, but no weapon was displayed.

Shortly before the suspect ran out of the building, the salesman got out of the car after someone asked him for directions, Shupe said.

It's not known what the robber told the salesman as to why he had to stop at the bank, which was the second one he visited during the test drive.

Earlier, he went into the Bank of Utah, but tellers became suspicious and notified police. The man left before police arrived.

The man was arrested Monday night by the Nevada State Patrol about five miles from Ely, Nev., or 200 miles southwest of South Ogden.

An undisclosed amount of money also was recovered during the arrest, South Ogden police said. The case has been turned over to the FBI.

The man, whose name has not been released, was being held in the White Pine County Jail in Nevada on suspicion of having a stolen car.
