Straight talk or Crickett?

You have 3 Carriers to choose from :

1) T-Mobile : Which you have and dislike
2 ) Verizon : Your coworker has Straight Talk (Verizon ) and has issues
3) AT&T : ????

I would still ask more people in your area what Carrier they have and if there happy with it .

I will do this sir. Thank You

Straight Talk used to offer AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile coverage however Verizon bought Tracfone wireless and has changed Straight Talk to Verizon network only.
Slightly OT, but l use Tracfone BYOP {bring your own phone} and buy a $20.00 U/L talk/text and 1 Gb data card each month. Seems to work quite well in my area. {Wheeling AV area} as far as customer service, it's pretty poor though.

No experience on the cell phone side as we have always had Verizon but we had Straight Talk for our home phone for a couple years it done well with no problems. Just thought I’d mention that. In my area Verizon has the best service. We had US Cellular years ago but they were horrible and charged us every time we traveled.

Do you have Spectrum internet? They have a decent deal through Spectrum Mobile, running on Verizon. I used to have them, then went to Mint & then Tello because they were even cheaper (& I didn’t need “unlimited“ data [watch the so-called “unlimited“ limits!]). Unfortunately Mint Mobile & Tello are both T-Mobile MVNOs. I bet Verizon is your best bet-they own Tracfone now, which I have on my personal cell-it works when all the others are out of range.

For Spectrum Mobile they run your credit, but otherwise they have very good pricing but you must have Spectrum Internet as well.

If there is any way to live with slower data & T-Mobile, the Tello unlimited talk/text & 500 MB 5G/unlimited 2G (which is actually slowed down 4G) for $9/month & almost no fees is the low price leader.

Its location dependant here and nearby tmob towers ( google fi) are very close to verizon and at&t overall as far as connection
tmobil is usually faster.. in cities but a little more spotty in the cow field.
But just a little.

Already had TELLO. Service way worse than T Monile

I’m rural and yes it’s REAL SLOW, dead zones around. So jacked, soon I’m switching or sticking with my flip phone.

You mean Wheeling West Virginia?

I've done Tracfone for years, did the BYOP eventually. I've always viewed it as, if anything goes sideways, I'm just out of luck. Lots of complaints about their customer service. But to be honest, in like 10 years I might have had to use customer service twice? and it went just fine each time. YMMV.

I just buy a $20 card every 3 months. I don't use my phone very much as a phone... or even use the data, have most of the cellular options turned off, and try to save data for when I need it (like bored in a checkout line). I did spring for a data card once or twice, left cell data on for email by mistake, drained what had been saved up over 5 plus years (ouch).

I'd hate to lose the accumulated minutes/texts/data, but at $7 per month... should I complain?

My biggest complaint is Verizon. I think they snub their nose a pre-paid. I can have 1 plus bars, yet cannot send/receive texts in many spots in my home area (and Verizon is the only game in town).

Since he is undecided on network I would suggest Red Pocket.
They carry all 3 networks and I’m almost certain he can switch networks since there is no contract. He knows TMobile us out so he can get Verizon or ATT and switch netted two.
With the above said most likely less hand holding with Red Pocket so maybe not for everyone

I’m that case he won’t beat Walmart Straight Talk

Had a interesting issue with Straight Talk on ATT network. Straight Talk would often not work, especially data, on much of I 80 through Wyoming. Yet, my work ATT phone worked on these same stretches. I switched from Straight Talk to ATT prepaid for my personal phone, and know the works on I80 in Wyoming.

I suspect ATT pays another firm for use of towers in parts of Wyoming. ATT extends use of these third party towers to its ATT customers, but not to its Straight Talk customers.

I have been on ATT prepaid for five years (BYOP). I trust ATT less than I would trust a crack seller. I do their prepaid as I would never want to be on a contract with ATT. My Wife is on Verizon with a contract, and pays less per month than I pay on ATT prepaid.

You might like visible as I've used it. 1 line is $25 and it uses the Verizon network really well. Other carriers lease out capacity differently so it's never identical.

Im not sure why anyone would want to sign up with a dearly loved PayTV company. People ranted for decades about price gouging but others will go to them for cell service. I dont get it. But to each their own.
Spectrum is not a cell company, they piggyback on Verizon network. So if you want Verizon and love your cable TV company, go for it.

or you can go to Red Pocket and pick any network you want to be one with no BS pricing and additional charges and not forced to buy a phone from Red Pocket. Of course Straight talk is also another good option with pricing similar to Spectrum.
Cricket is another option if you want to be sure to be on ATT network. A smart Walmart employee can set you up with the provider of your choosing too.

It's really easy to pick a service provider. Choose the network that you want to be on and go for it.
Pointless asking which is the best out of ATT, TMobile and Verizon as far as coverage. It all depends exactly where you live.
We hated to leave ATT on the East Coast, drop dead great service for a decade and in addition to my personal ATT phone my company provided phone was Verizon. ATT was 100% equal to Verizon.

We went to T-Mobile for price and almost free upgrades to Two new (at the time) iPhone 13's with us turning in our older iPhones.
WIth the Magenta 55+ plan at $70 a month for two unlimited everything lines it couldn't be beat. Next March will be two years and will decide if I keep the service or not. Depends if someone offers me something better. Heck they eve pay for a Basic Netflix Streaming Subscription and all other kinds of perks, Airplane data, overseas texting, stuff doesnt matter much to me though. The Tethering is nice to have for us. Dont have to use the hotel networks.

Consider Google Fi as well. Service is great, pricing is great and they always have amazing deals on phones.
