Straight blade or Fusion?

+1 safety razor.

I have a straight razor and only used it 2-3 times. Not hard per say just.. Hard to get everything. No matter how many passes I did I always had micro lines of stubble.

I've finally taken the leap and shaved with the cutthroat I was gifted. I probably should have gotten a tetanus shot as a precautionary measure. It turned out well, though. Not sure I want to make shaving with a straight razor a daily routine. Definitely requires full attention and a steady hand.

I'm about 6 weeks into shaving with a Double edge safty razor, and can safly say I won't go back to modern Gimick razors.

IMO...For the best shave....DE, Open Comb razor like a Vintage Gillette or a Modern Muhle R-41 and some great quality DE blades like Feather.

Just dump the disposable multi-blade gimmick garbage and enjoy a great shave with a DE safety razor.

This has me really intrigued so I went to Amazon to see what they had to offer and there is literally thousands of combinations with blades and safety razors. Since I don't want to spend in excess of a year with trial and error finding the best combination, what would you all advise me purchasing?

And question #2. How do you all dispose of the blades to prevent you or your trash man from getting sliced when handling the trash?

OK. I am sold on a safety razor now. LOL
I an using the brush and shave mug now along with a disposable razor.
I looked for my late dads safety razor but could not find it.

There is a spot in the container that is holding the new blades to put your used blades. When the new blades are gone, the old blade spot is full and you throw them out as an assembly. Technically safer than throwing away disposable blades.

I buy my stuff from West Coast Shaving. LINK

The Merkur 34C is a good starter. Get the 100 pack sample kit of blades and you're all set.

ANY container will work. I cut a slot into an old Ocean Spray juice bottle 15 years ago. 15 years worth of blades and it looks like there's almost nothing in it. It will last for the rest of my life.

I have a few Vintage Gem, Gillette, Merkur and Hoffritz razors left to me from my father, uncles and a couple picked up at yard sales that were never used. I also purchased a Muhle R-41 from Amazon, along with shave creams, soaps and shaving brush.

I use witch hazel as my aftershave picked up at Family Dollar mixed with the generic old spice that is sold for a low price.

I dispose of the blades by putting the used blades into a used prescription bottle, that has a child proof top, for disposal at my local doctors/hospital's "sharps container", when the bottle is full.

I have been buying my razors from Dorco for a couple years now.

Very good quality, they are very cheap also.

I buy one of their grab bags of various razors, it lasts me a year for 40 dollars.

Buying razors at the drug store is very expensive.

I bought a Rapira razor and a pack of 5 blades off EBay . Cost a total of $10 shipped from Moscow.

Nice razor and very good blades.
I have since ordered a 100 pack of blades (again for about $10) I should be good for some years now.

The improvement in shave I get after 40 years of using plastic razors is astounding!
