Petey short for Pete the Pup from Little Rascals. He looks like him with a spot around his right eye. A bit of a goof ball whom is protective of the kids and loves their attention. My wife is his favorite. She does not like pets she gets that from her father. At least she did not like pets until we rescued Petey.

She saw how happy the kids and him are together and could not help not to be happy herself. "It does not hurt that she is his favorite person either."

I have a cousin that is on his 3rd or 4th - "Dee Oh Gee" .
They always have the same name, different breeds and colors.

We let our 2 yr old daughter name a new kitten that we rescued from a friend of ours.
their dog had eaten all the other siblings.
"Scrunchy Pickle" lived to be 13.

Murphy-our male beagle-just seemed to be a "Murphy" when we brought him home. He was 8 weeks old at that time. 6 months later we brought home Mandy; it was only natural to have another name that started with an M since both my wife, Murphy and I all start with M.

I've had lots of cats over the years (don't have time for a dog) and names come from all over the place...a black and white cat called Whiskey, Daisy Mae and Biff, Kelvin(ator) because he hung around the fridge, and his mother M, head of the Cat Secret Service. I lost my torty Dusty a few years ago, so called by my Granddaughter because it looked like she had been sleeping in ashes. So when a grey tom turned up on the doorstep, I called him Smokey Joe.

I always like a friends cat called Piston...or else you could say [censored].

"Arizona," the big red Maine Coon mix: he was large, red-rock-colored, and [censored] like a cactus.

"Oreo," the little long-haired tuxedo cat, came with that name, but it suited her: she was little and round and sweet, and mostly black with a white filling.

"Tatiana Romanova," the Siberian kitten, I named for the James Bond heroine, since it was the only attractive female Russian name I knew.

"Wolf," one of the two current cats: because he's big and rangy, very social, and because wolves do come in black. Besides, anybody can name his black cat "[censored]" or "Shadow." Takes imagination to name one "Wolf."

"Chekov," my second Siberian cat, came with that name from his breeder.

"Marie Antoinette," the previous longhaired black cat, came with that name, probably because she thought she was cat royalty.

ETA: one of the Evil One's names, and a word for sharp-spined, are both censored? Who knew?

Chipper - a weimareiner named for chewing her bed up
Blue - another weimareiner named by my kid sister for being blue
Thor - a saint bernard named for his club sized feet as a puppy
Pepperpot - an aussie named for Monty Python's charactors
Large Marge - a mastiff named for the truck driver from Pee Wee's big adventure
Truman - a mastiff mix named for a mastiff in a kids book

I'm nuts so I generally start with a name and then it turns into something completely different, but somewhat based on the original. Oh, and my entire family does this

1. Fluffy. A tortoiseshell cat I owned, came with the name. She ultimately ended up as "Beufer". That one was pretty weird.

2. Misty, this was my sister's cat. Eventually morphed into "Middy Bear"

3. Hiram, named after Hiram Abiff, became Hi-waum, then Waum, and now it alternates between, Waum, Mista Waum, The Waum Baum and various variations of those.

4. Belvedere, my big, and not overly bright at times, Newfoundland. His nickname is 'tard, which then became 'taud, and that's pretty much what we call him most of the time.

5. Wilson. Baybehz. he's an attention-seeking Himalayan. He gets called Baybehz or Wiiiiillllssoooooonnnnn BAYBEHZ most of the time. He was named after the ball from the movie Castaway.

6. Henry. Named after Henry Ford, he is Wilson's brother, but born a year later (same parents). But he got fat, so we started calling him "Plumper" and that's his current alias. Variations include "Plumber baby snuggle pants" and "Plumpoo". He's extremely cuddly, cute, and fat.
