store owner fires warning shot to scare off would-be robbers

Since it's Anaheim in California, I suspect the store owner will be arrested, charged, and spend time in prison. The thieving scum ahem, mostly peaceful shoppers, will be located, apologized to, and given compensation for the emotional trauma they unfairly endured.
With owning weapons there comes responsibility and culpability to laws in firing them.

Appears no one got hurt in this so all is well.

The problem with that argument when it comes to the "catch and release" states is that they seem to have the manpower and resources for prosecuting law abiding citizens for defending themselves, or for small or petty infractions, but will not do so for the serious criminals and serious crimes being committed, citing lack of "resources".

Yeah all is well...

Except the shop owner now has to repair damage to his store. He has to deal with the emotional trauma of having his property attacked while knowing it could have been him and his employees, and still might face charges for having the audacity to defend himself, his employees, and his property.

Meanwhile the thugs excuse me, mostly peaceful shoppers, are still running free and will no doubt target someone else with similar tactics. Or maybe in their warped minds will now feel justified in going after this business owner when he isn't in is fortified bunker of a shop.

Yep, all is well.

According to the news story here on KCAL, the bullet was stuck in the "glass" door
Like this. This was a trade sample I made years ago when working with this material. That's a 9mm 124gr FMJ @ 1200 fps. We made the samples then shot the bullets into them. Man that was fun work. Good to see the concept in use.

That was pretty much exactly how it looked. I totally get the store owner's frustration. There have been multiple smash and grab robberies all around LA at jewelers. The security camera footage showed maybe 20 or more people waiting to get in and join in the rampage.

Meanwhile the thugs excuse me, mostly peaceful shoppers, are still running free and will no doubt target someone else with similar increased bravado, increased tactics, increased confidence, increased entitlement likely resulting sooner or later to the loss of life, limb, and PTSD to innocent people who have committed no crime. Or maybe in their warped minds will now feel justified be going after this business owner when he isn't in is fortified bunker of a shop (how dear he protect himself and his employees, and his property).

Yep, all is well.
Make no mistake, the organized crime gang of 20 +/- members and five plus stolen cars will be back, and back, and back for more and more. Make no mistake.

To think they got away results in a major risk to the safety and security of that area. To be happy they got away without nobody being injured or dead is very shortsighted. These organized criminals going uncaught, unconfined, and unconvicted will unquestionably result in an increase in loss of innocent life at a future date.

I watched an interview, he seemed pretty well emotionally after all said and done.

The repairs are glass no one got in.

He did not get hurt/killed along with employees along with the mob so no severe charges and worrying about much about legalities.

The owner again has very little culpability here and minor if any legal issues. The course of injuring/killing few would not change that mob or their ways. Maybe make people feel better on story.

I don think they will be back, thieves are generally scared, going back to the same place doesn't happen often.
Also my feeling is a handgun is very effective, sometimes more than a rifle.
In close encounters a pistol is superior. If close criminals can grab a gun barrel before you get off a shot. Then you got problems.

Try this: assume a shooting position while holding a handgun and note where the end of the barrel is then mount a semi-auto rifle and note where the end of the barrel is. I don't know about you but the end of the barrel of my handgun is further away than the end of the 16" barrel on my rifle or shotgun.

Very few people train to shoot from retention. Most people couldn't hit a man sized target from the display counter to the entrance door with a pistol when in mortal danger and pumped full of adrenaline, a long gun gives a better chance. The store owner gave himself a chance with the entrance sally port and armored glass but shouldn't have had to run to the back to get his firearm. Maybe with this video as evidence he can get a protection carry permit and keep the handgun where it should be. And a legal rifle or 2.

The way the West Coast is going right now reminds me of hearing about old school NYC back in the 70’s and 80’s when drugs were rampant, criminals had all the rights, and law-enforcement was mostly indifferent to it all.
It’s quite worse today than it was then, having lived through both.
Organized crime (from other countries) is here now.
Drugs are much worse now.
Politicians are much more corrupt, DAs have been compromised. Governor is the most incompetent in 50 years.
