I have a 1996 Ford Explorer V8 5.0L AWD and it seems to have a slight leak around the rear of the oil pan and around the rear main location. I used Auto-Rx about a year and a half ago and since then have used a HM 5w30 and LC. I might actually try a 10w30 in the summer it there are no quality Stop Leakproducts to try. The leak doesn't leak onto the ground or anything, but you can definitly see it when you climb under the truck. Are there and good stop leak products on the market that you would use on your own vehicle? Before LC I didn't use any additives, so I don't want some snake oil additive that will either do nothing or cause problems like clogged passage ways etc.. So has anyone use a Stop Leak product on their own car that actually worked. Thanks for the help.

You might want try non synthetic oil for a couple of oil changes I had the same problem and it stopped my leak good luck,

i would be very cautious using any stop leak adds to engine oil...most are strong chemicals that work by causing seal swell....not good for working valve stem seals
switch to a 5w40 HDEO oil...good summer and winter
are you positive it's motor oil and not ATF coming out of front seal of transmission? wipe clean and test with white paper towel after a run....red=ATF

dbdeland, I have been running conventional oil. I have run Valvoline Maxlife 5w30 for a little over a year and now i just switched to Castrol High Mileage 5w30 last oil change.
steelhead, thanks, thats why I posted to see if there are any quality stop leaks out there that won't cause problems. If there is no such product, I was thinking of trying a High Mileage 10w30 or even 10w40 in summer, why would you choose a 5w40 such as Rotella over a High Mileage Oil. Other then it being a 5w for winter use, wouldn't a High Mileage oil be better for its seal conditioners and swellers? Why would choosing a 5w40 be a better choice over a High Mileage oil. Do the amount of additives that come in a High Mileage oil to condition the seals really make a big difference? thanks

I failed to inform you I use 15x40 Castrol non synthetic oil and 3oz of Auto-Rx at each oil change as a maintenance program after the cleaning and rinse phase I never went back to synthetic oil this is a personal preference. I do not have any leaks this has been about 1 year I have been into this program good luck.

thanks for the replys. I don't want to run multiple additives, I currently only use LC. I was just wondering if there was a one time additive that could be used to stop leaks which is also safe and proven to work. If there is no such product then i guess I will just try to go to a thicker vis. oil next change. Like I said early, the leak is not real bad and I have used Auto-Rx about a year ago which did not work. thanks
SR77: I have used Bar's Stop Leak (for engine oil) with success in a GM 3600 engine. Leaks were not completely stopped, but slowed a lot.
FYI, this motor did not start leaking badly until after an Auto-RX cycle (which was done per instructions) at 135K miles.
I've used Bar's only once, and plan to go with HM 10w-40 for this engine at its next change. Good luck.

You should have done 2 AutoRX applications to deal with the leak!
bobo, I followed the 100,000 mile Stop Leak instructions on Auto-Rx's site. That consisted of 2 applications.
Many of the "high mileage" oils that are out have seal conditioners that may help you out.
They cost about the same as regular oils, may be worth a shot.
