Stocking up on Fram OCOD?

Good evening - I read that Fram was bought by another company. Usually, the new owners try to "improve" the product and turn it into total garbage. Usually that means cheaping out on quality and trading on the good reputation of the old product. Examples include Maytag appliances, Whirlpool appliances, Moen faucets ad nauseum. I thought about buying 4 years worth of OCOD for the cars I plan to keep driving. How long does a filter last if kept in a dry environment?

Thanks in advance for any advice

I don't know what kind of company Trico is, they do still make "classic" wiper blades so that is something.

Stock up if you like, but It'll probably take a while for them to mess it up anyway...

Be interesting to see if the OE filter contracts are affected too...

I wouldn't stock up on the OCODs, but with the deals available on eBay Ultra 6 packs, if you can keep them in a dry environment (preferably in Ziploc bags with dessicant bags), there's no reason not to atock up. Here's one of my favorites-
https://www.ebay.com/itm/161962774844 -$3.83 each, a little more than 1/3 of what WM gets for an XG8A, I can run them until they rust off if I want to.

Fram is not the only "good filter" company. Wix can always fill in. I diagnose you with FOCD....(filter obscessive compulsive disease)

Wix Mann & Hummel is filling in, don't worry, they're already turning Wix into a more expensive Purolator. I've used Wix in the past when I could find a good deal, but those deals have been few & far between lately. You find me a source for NAPA Golds for sub $4 consistently (& I don't mean the nearly impossible to find NAPA Farm/Fleet sales, rarer than hen's teeth here), I'll be all over them-and the Gold is STILL not as good a filter as an Ultra!

A lot of speculation, they might keep them exactly the same too. Having said that if you can find a good deal, load up. I just bought a few years worth of Mobil 1 filters for my Rubicon, the price was right. I did the same thing last year with Fram Ultras for my Liberty. I usually jump on good deals.

I don't think it is possible. They are about as cheaply made as I have ever seen.

I have some 5 year old filters in my stash right now that won't be used for at least another year, and I have no concerns for using them.
They are stored inside, so not worried much about moisture or temp changes.

I see not need to build a stash of the OCOD though.

Why not go with the Fram Ultra and use them for 2x oil changes. They only get better with age.

I wouldn't even worry about it, they changed hands from Honeywell to the current (now previous) owners a few years ago and the filters didn't change much then either. The OCOD itself isn't much different now than it was in the 70's or whenever Jay (MOTORKING) mentioned they started the current design we see today. The oil filter is a very simple part, there's not much that can be done to improve it more than it already is. Just as long as it's not tearing or blowing apart from pressure flux, you got nothing to worry about!

At LEAST 10 years, easily. I have been using filters over ten years old for the better part of 50 years

and have NEVER experienced any filter failure as a result (from properly stored filters)

Anyone who says otherwise - - - - will be unable to provide any proof to the contrary.

I'm betting Fram filters stay as they are now. Stock up if you want, though. I bought 12 Mobil 1 filters for my 2018 Jeep at Walmart for 4 bucks each. I prefer Fram Ultras, but just can't pass up 3 Mobil 1 filters for the price of 1 Ultra.

Yea that was a tough deal to pass on. Thanks again for the heads up on that deal!

I would never stock up on oil filters. Who knows how long you will have your vehicle around. I know there are goofy people that tell themselves they will
own a car with a Buick 3800 till the day they die and justify stocking up on a bakers dozen oil filters, but not me.
