Stimulus plan

Stimulus sucks.

I suggest the gov't paying the portgages in whatever gap may exist, based upon the peoples' abilities, and let these payments remain as a lien against their home... If the time comes and they never repay, dock their social security or welfare, or let them perform community service at the prevailing minimum wage.

No excuse for poor fiscal management.

For the companies? Let them go under. The only thing that should be considered for a bailout is national, internal to the US manufacturing. Those people are the only ones amongst us who actually create anything of value. The rest of us are overpaid managers who for the most part add nothing of value.

I say we have a mortage lottery. The lucky winners have the government pay off their mortgages. Then they would have lots of free spending money to boost the economy!

**The problem with the stimulus is we are giving it away to China, Japan etc.... when we buy more stuff.

Quote:
Barack Obama, 2009:

What is required of us now is a new era of responsibility - a recognition, on the part of every American, that we have duties to ourselves, our nation, and the world, duties that we do not grudgingly accept but rather seize gladly, firm in the knowledge that there is nothing so satisfying to the spirit, so defining of our character, than giving our all to a difficult task.

George W. Bush, 2000:

A hundred years from now, this must not be remembered as an age rich in possessions and poor in ideals.

Instead, we must usher in an era of responsibility.

Bill Clinton, 1993:

We must do what America does best: offer more opportunity to all and demand responsibility from all.

It is time to break the bad habit of expecting something for nothing, from our government or from each other. Let us all take more responsibility, not only for ourselves and our families but for our communities and our country.

Why should anybody have to pay for someone elses mortgage? So far the only ones making out are the CEOs and upper management.

Hey Groucho, dont give'em any ideas. The current war aint doing much for anybody except maybe Halliburton and those Blackwater guys.

Because the big beneficiary of the borrower's foolish action wasn't the foolish borrower. It was all that were employed in the creation of the money that the debt enabled. All the profits that were seen ..all the taxes that were paid.

These were always the principle objects of the benefit. They continue to be.

Now I feel like a real jerk for not overextending my credit and for not buying the biggest house I could barely afford. Sorry, America.

According to another poster you were. You're only purpose in America is to support those who cannot support themselves, irrespective of how their decision making landed them in their situation.

We have had stimulus it did not work. Borrowing more money from China is insanity. But Washington does not have any new ideas. 'Change has come to America'. Yes and it's called bankruptcy.

+1

They were complaining down here yesterday that Australians didn't spend their stimulus package correctly.

Apparently they wasted it on stuff like mortgages and outstanding debt rather than tinkling it up the wall.

"Reduced it's effectiveness" apparently

Don't we get the money for the stimulus from China? If so we had might as well hand it back to them and then pay it back with interest!

We are Asia's "cash cows"!

That article is a shining example of why government is not the answer to the problem...it is the problem.

The report came from the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office and said proposed money for construction, and school and highway repair, would only drip -- not gush -- into the economy.

Tax cuts are immidiet!

Yeah, all of those manufacturing jobs making military supplies/weapons/vehicles and all of the high technology that comes from military spending is a total waste.
