When it's super cold the AC doesn't do much for defrosting. On my Hyundais with manual heaters you can disable the auto AC logic when in defrost. It only makes a difference when the humidity is really high and the temps above freezing.

My car does not activate the A/C in defrost mode, it's a separate button. But, when it's cold the A/C won't cycle anyway.

Typically the heated air is so dry it doesn't need the A/C anyway in the dead of winter.

what car is that?

almost any car in the last 20 years puts a/c on in defrost.

fords are more aggressive and its on in anything except vent only or floor only (vent/floor=on)

except if its below 30F or so it wont run it.

My vw won't turn on ac in defrost. That is nice. But in defrost it will turn off recirc. I find that annoying. Given how little heat it makes I would like the option to recirculate, as I can easily turn it off when it fogs up.

I don't generally idle to heat up a vehicle, but today I will, as the truck is coated in ice. A few minutes to thaw the ice buildup on the wipers would be nice. I wonder if I can turn on defrost and recirc, get out and clean off the vehicle? Probably not. But it'd be nice to not draw in 5F air while it is slowly warming up the inside.

Hyundais you can disable that by doing a special button pushing routine.

I thought that only helped on the front window???

I owned a Seat Toledo, basically a Golf/Jetta underpinnings, new in '99 and the A/C didn't come on in that if the temp was below a certain temperature. I think 5oC or something like that from memory. Was a pain as the demisters were not the best.

I'm proper lane change.

What?

Bah, the number of times I've been nearly sideswiped in perfectly good weather would have me to believe that cleaning off windows is strictly unnecessary for most folk.

2006 GTO.

I like the feature since I can put air in the car without blowing it in my face.
