Do not know that turning on the A/C will get rid of moisture build up on the inside windows. Almost got in an accident this morning because a drivers rear window was all fogged up.
Having the HVAC in recirculate also leads to excess moisture in the vehicle. The human body aspirates massive amounts of water.
But my favorite is seeing people head down the road with a completely frosted windshield with that tiny hole cleared on the drivers side barely big enough to see out of.
I'm not sure how the rear window would cause a wreck. My cherokee has the rear window defrost unhooked and the HVAC isn't strong enough to reach the rear window.
The roads today are like the wild West, what with texting, talking on the phone, late for work, need to get home, putting on makeup since I got up late, etc, etc, etc. Around where I live you have to be a very defensive driver or get run over. Fogged up windows are the least of it.
In most (if not all) cars made in the past 30 years, selecting Defrost will turn on the AC compressor if it's warm enough. It also comes on if you put air at your feet and the windshield.
It may just be too cold for the AC compressor to cycle on.

I'm proper lane change.
Isn't that what mirrors are for?
I don't have the statistics on hand but people greatly prefer to use their windshield mounted mirror. They might use side mirrors and other drivers would be lucky if they did a head check. The last would require defrosted windows on the sides.
