My 025 Stihl chain saw is running like crap. It seems to be running rich, it will not idle, just stalls when you let off the throttle. Changed the spark plug and installed a new air filter element, fresh gas and oil at 50:1, and it still runs like crap. The "H" and "L" adjustment screws on the carb seem to to nothing. Any advice before I take a sledge hammer to this thing?

Now you may think this is a little off the wall......
Had this same kind of thing happen to my father in laws gas weedwacker. He called me out to his place to see if I could figure out what happened.
Shure was running like crap. Fresh gas, air filter OK, plug good.
On closer inspection I found that bees, or wasps, had started to build a nest in the exaust! They had the exaust almost completely pluged up!
Took the exaust apart, cleaned it, and it ran like new.
Check the intake and exaust carefully for spiders, bees and the like!
Hope this helps......Jim

Sounds like you have carb problems. If you have not been running the gas out of the carb before storing than the carb will need to be clean out and rebuilt.

Thanks, everyone! I'll check the exaust, and then go from there.

I had a problem like this with my weedwhacker earlier this year. It turned out I was using a resistor plug, where I should have been using a non-resistor one. The magneto wasn't strong enough to produce a good spark on the resistor plug. The one key symptom in my case was that it wouldn't stay running when hot, no matter how much throttle I gave it. It was also very hard to start and wouldn't run very well, even when cold.
