I just bought this truck.

It’s all near mint, but the cluster of buttons on the left side of the steering wheel gets sticky when it’s 32F or less, but not on the right side. The free up once the heater brings interior temp up

— is spraying electric cleaner onto the problem is the best way to go OR are there better solutions?

I’d run some heavy paper stock In there to get the mess out. Perhaps slightly dampen it. Be careful…

Anything you use could remove the white markings on the buttons so you'll want to start as gentle as possible. If you have access to steam some quick blasts may soften up the gunk enough to be wiped off in little sections.

I've heard you can use Isopropyl alcohol on some of the VW stick button stuff so that may be worth a try too.

I'm a big user of alcohol for cleaning. Squirt it in there and exercise the buttons. With time it should dry completely. But, as mentioned, test in an inconspicuous area so it doesn't destroy the visible surface.

Operation of the buttons
Right. But the sides of the buttons will often stick especially if they’ve ever seen sugar drinks. Thus why the card stock or similar will help break that bond.

If you can source it, use the CAIG DeoxIT spray as it cleans the contacts and safely lubricates the plastic buttons.

If the buttons are soft touch this may dissolve the surfaces.
