Sadly, I was doing a yard job last Friday when someone stole my stick edger right out of my equipment trailer. It was the very edger I had just bought a few months back on clearance from Home Depot. Some of you may recall the thread:

I guess I was too trusting; I didn't realize that you have to chain your equipment down in the trailer while you're working in the yard. I'm a solo guy, so admittedly, if I'm on the other side of the house doing some mowing or string trimming, there lies an opportunity for a thief in waiting. They didn't touch the mowers (too big), I was using my string trimmer, and my brand new Echo ES-250 blower was in the back of the CR-V (but unlocked).

I guess I should feel lucky that they stole only the edger. Geez...

So I'm going to replace it, and with something that I might should have bought to begin with. I was contemplating selling the Echo edger I had then just bought and buying Echo's PAS-225, which is their Pro Attachment Series power head. A co-worker has one and the attachment connection is very sturdy (seems to be cast aluminum) and even the 21.2cc 225 model has more than enough power for anything I'm doing. The edger I just had stolen was the 230 model with a 22.8cc engine, and it was way over-powered for the edging I do.

Anyway, does anyone have the PAS-225? I like many things about it, but particularly now, I like that it can be broken down and secured in the back of the CR-V while I'm not using it. This way, I only have to have one longer chain to tie the mowers in to the trailer.

I plan to buy the PAS-225 power head and the stick edger attachment. Then later on, I may sell my Echo GT-200R trimmer and buy the straight shaft trimmer attachment, so I'll eventually have all of my handheld OPE (save for the blower) running on one engine.

Thoughts?

Your trailer is an open one I take it? If not just close the doors and maybe lock them esp if the area is a little shady. And I don't mean out of the sun.

Edit: Don't be surprised if something else comes up missing from this location. They'll probably be keeping an eye out for your next arrival. Ask the cops to patrol the area next time your there.

sorry to hear about that. sad that people feel the need to steal from another person. hope everything works out ok for you.

It's an open trailer. I will have no trouble in the future. The mowers will be locked to the trailer, and any hand-held equipment will be locked in the back of the CR-V when I'm not using it.

I put in a police report with the serial number, and called all the pawn shops on Friday afternoon. I've also been watching Craigslist, but I'm sure the edger is long gone; probably traded for drugs or money that very afternoon. If it ever does show up, it'll probably be from the 3rd or 4th person to touch it since it was stolen.

The price of cameras and recorders is very affordable. Go to Fry's, etc. Get it recorded and hand that to the police.

Another thing I heard to help prevent theft is to back track to the truck often. This was said about cars when going to a shopping mall. Since many thieves will wait till your out of site then pounce. They aren't expecting you to come right back a minute later.
