Steve Magnate selling everything

I'll chime in with the fact that this man has to sell everything that he owns because of medical bills. I'm sure that he was better off than a lot of people, but an illness that puts him in hospital for a while destroys everything that he has built up. It's sad and sickening.

How does this happen? Doesn't he have medical insurance?

It's mind-boggling.

I'm sure that the "outrageous" cost of anything to do with medical care has something to do with it.

That's a conversation for another time and another forum though. :cautious:

He is up and walking. Better than he was doing a few months ago.

True- And I hope he gets better.

Just heard he has had some setbacks too. Wishing for him to heal and get better soon!

Man deserves a go fund me for the great work he has done- I’’d donate to that!

I think most people like him are freelance contractors, he may have just had a catastrophic plan that only covered a small portion, either way its sad all the way around. I hope to see him back.

No Obamacare policy available? I'm paying $153 per month for a pretty comprehensive policy, but they start at well under $100.
Some of us exist in a weird grey zone where we can't afford insurance nor get help from the gov.

I'm in the same boat as the guy you responded to. I have chronic health conditions, and the policies I can "afford" - I can't afford the high out of pocket, high co-pays, and high deductibles. Currently fighting to get disability and Medicare due to the aftermath of my cancer battles (severe lung issues, under 50% function). Medicaid won't help in my state because I'm not a pregnant woman or a child. Relying currently on my hospital fees being covered by the hospital's financial assistance (100% so far, well over $1 mil at this point). I'd be dead, otherwise. Haha

Making the best of it everyday! 😉🙂

A few years back my SIL was hit by a dually pickup while out walking her dog. She has never been the same, and is completely unable to care for herself, speak coherently, or not need a diaper. She is 44.

To get her the help and health care she needs would mean essentially selling everything they own and living in poverty level housing. My BIL has an excellent job with excellent insurance, but permanent care is something not covered by most insurance. I don't know all the details, I just know my BIL has a plan to work a few years, find a really small house to set up for them, then dump everything to get her the care she needs, at a sacrifice to their normal livelihood. We toyed with moving back to be more help, but the state they live in is one of 3 people are fleeing from and I couldn't bring myself to move back to it, nor could my wife, plus all of our kids are here. I've suggested they move here.

At least Steve has stuff to sell. Not everyone does. We had a spaghetti feed fundraiser to help the wife of my best friend when he died of cancer 5 years ago. She has since remarried, which most likely kept her afloat.

I've never heard of this guy, but it sounds from the replies as though he has some tough health issues to deal with. I wish him the best.

Don't get me started on insurance since Obamacare became the law. My insurance immediately quadrupled, with worse coverage. And has only continued to go up since then. I have more stories, but instead of getting even more angry over something I can't seem to fix, I think we'll go for a Motorcycle ride instead.
