I've rotated tires but my steering wheel shakes at speeds of 75mph. Should I try having the tires balanced?

usually its ur tire being out of balance....sometimes one of the weights fell off and it will causeh that....umm make sure u also torque ur tires...sometimes that can be the cause of vibrations as well. but im guaranteed that it is ur balance...if not come bak and we will find out

If it's front wheel drive, it's probably a wheel balance problem. Many FWD's won't shimmy or shake even when the alignment is *Badly* off. If RWD, balance is still more likely than alignment. Sounds like it's been out of balance awhile, but you only noticed it after tire rotaion, when the offending wheel was mounted on the front. If it was mine, I'd get those front tires balanced.

Thanks guys. It is front wheel drive. I just had rear drums put on. The first pair were defective and were put on with the wheel loose. I drove 300 miles with a loose tire. It's finaly fixed and everything is on tight but I think the tire balancing is off. I'll have all four done and see if that helps.

Considering the loose wheels, I am assuming the lug nuts were not tight. If so I would want to be sure the wheel and the studs are still OK. If your wheels look like the ones that I have seen come loose the wheel will not mount properly. I would think that could cause an out of balance condition. Could even cause the wheel to come off.

Most cars use the tapered lug nuts in the wheel lug nut holes to properly center the wheel on the hub.

If all of this is OK then I would also think the balance is off. For some reason my 91 Honda Civic is out of balance every time I rotate the tires.

same car and same issue.

i just got everything rebalanced and even then there's still a slight shimmy at 80-100 km/h that they can't get out, even after replacing a bent rim.

check yo cv's.

the joint its self might not be bad, but i have seen cars where the mounting surface that the joint bolts to the transmission is worn out and couses the cv jointto wobble around endlessly making shaking at speed. only cure is new cv joint flanges on the transmission.

this may not be the problem though, its just a thought.
