steering wheel options

Hello all,

I have a 2005 Chevy Classic with a deteriorating steering wheel (chunks starting to come off). The steering wheel is beige (I think Chevy called it "neutral") with cruise control. I do not have a leather interior.

If I could get part number 22622836, I think that's what I would need. Unfortunately, due to the car's age, it will be difficult to find one. Even my local junkyard is starting to show this generation of Malibu/Classic less and less.

What are my options? I'm open to other colors, or if there is a parts compatibility with other vehicles that I might be able to find. How expensive is reconditioning? Part of me doesn't want to spend that much on that old of a car, but mechanically, the car is in good shape and I'd like to keep it rolling.

Have you tried a fairly substantial cover? I put this one on my 08 CRV and it's been doing fine. Also comes in beige.

I generally don't like steering wheel covers, so I was trying to avoid that.

I saw that. It's the correct physical fit, but it doesn't have the cruise control buttons. That seems to be the big problem. I've found a few sources for the ones without the buttons, but nothing with.
