The Poms oops English/Scottish have always had the best bands/singers.

Please re-check the blood alcohol thread,

With all due respect some may disagree. While no one can deny the bloody brits brought us the Beatles, Stones, etc and so many great groups for the relative size of a country, "best" has yet to be determined. Especially in the singer category.

The Brit music phenomenon pretty much stopped in the 80's (Duran Duran, Wham -> George Michael, Police, Dire Straights, ...). If you listen to the new Brit music on BBC radio now, it's mostly bland and forgettable. Dish TV has BBC Radio 1 on channel 6011, and it's on Sirius but I don't know that channel number. The top grossing acts now are US/Canadian or old dinosaurs like U2, Rolling Stones, Elton John.

I'd say the whole music business is in pause mode, waiting for a new direction and energy.

Err hello. Have you not heard of Coldplay, Franz Ferdinand, Dido, Joss Stone, Lone Pigeon, Martina Topley-Bird, Girls Aloud, Muse, Beth Gibbons, Goldfrapp, Basement Jaxx, Sugababes, Chemical Brothers, Super Furry Animals, Dizzee Rascal, The Streets, The Darkness, Mis-Teeq, Blur, Roots Manuva, The Coral, P J harvey, Radiohead, The Libertines, Robert Wyat, and so many more. Maybe in the U.S you don't get to hear/know about them? They still lead the world by a country mile. They should they get govt sponsorship.

You got that right...Steely Dan has been my favorite band for over 25 years. The fads come and go, but I've never tired of their sound.

Agreed. Coldplay who Midge Ure and Bono from U2 said were in the top 3 bands in the world with U2 and the Strolling Bones are the only one I really like. Joss stone can sing up a storm and The Darkness are big time but I don't really know the others much.
