"Stay in grade" cold temps allow grade slippage

Been told that of course an oil that starts in grade finishes in grade...found this funny and ironic.

So as long as the aged oil meets the requirements of the next "w" grade above it...it's "in grade"...by slipping a grade, it's staying in grade.

(of course it may stay in the grade that it started and still stay in grade)

(ILSAC is the "International Lubricant Specification Advisory Committee..is that like the world series ???)

(Funny that it's only applicable to 0W through 10W, 20s (now 16s) through 30s...i.e. "Energy Conserving")

Yep, ILSAC doesn't concern itself with the non-resource conserving grades, by their very definition. Their rules don't even apply to all 30 multigrades. A3/B3 A3/B4 and E spec 30 multigrades are notable exceptions. One has to want the donut to worry about the ILSAC rules.

It's a slight bit more international than the "World" Series. ILSAC rated lubes are specified in Korean and Japanese automobiles, in addition to the obvious North American choices.
