Statistics or discrete math?

At the AA level you are going to take more advanced classes that deal with both math classes as you progress. You'll use stats in other classes more than discrete, such as quality assurance, production planning, etc.
 
My guess is this class is statistics and probability?

In that case, take it over discrete math.

FYI, I have dual majors in math and statistics.

You may not need the exact statistic if you transfer, because this statistic is probably not calculus based or advanced enough. However, still take it so if you transfer to a program that need statistic later you will be much better off, and only need to focus on the calculus or math rather than the concept.

Discrete math is useful if you ever want to go into control system or computer software development (yes, a lot of mech engineer turns into software guys later).

I've taken both classes. I've never used discrete math, but I have used statistics+prob.

I used to seriously enjoy all forms of math class. And, I found discrete to be annoyingly boring. In fact, it was the only math course I disliked. It was also one of the few classes I failed to receive an "A" in.

The concepts were not difficult, but some test questions were tougher than I had time to solve.

I'd still recommend it over discrete math.
That class will get you ready for a senior level probability and statistics class. The engineers I knew working on their 4 year degree all took a junior level linear algebra class and a senior level statistics class. Not exactly sure what else, but I recall those 2 specifically.
