When I was a kid growing up in Fitchburg Mass, I lived in a condo on Jon Fitch highway right across the street from the George Wallace Civic Center- (the Bruins training camp) A friend and I were considered rink rats since we were always there, we were let in when it was closed to the public, we would shag pucks, tote equip., bring skates upstairs for sharpening or whatever the rink maint. guy wanted us to do. This would have been the mid 70's. I had autographs from most of the players and 3 Piggly Wiggly bags full of Bruins pucks. Somehow all that stuff disappeared during the move to FL.
My friend and I never looked at it like it was a big deal, we were at the rink just about everyday regardless and thought the bonus was extra ice time for us not the fact that we were able to watch the Bruins train with nobody else in the building. Not realizing how lucky we were at the time. Bobby Orr never showed when I was there, he was the one I would have liked to have met since he was my childhood idol. Thought I would share my Bruins story with you guys, probably quite a boring read for most, but thanks for reading it anyway.
Now 1 more time- Go Bruins!
