stake bed diesel pickups

If new ,usually you buy a pickup without a bed then go to a company that sells the bed you need then have it installed or do it yourself.

OK, easy enough... Ive found companies around that install these bodies.

Any suggestions of where to look to find good used trucks with bodies installed?

Or are used trucks like this not worth it because theyve seem too much HD use?

Thanks!

Buy a lower miles truck used that doesn't have the bed installed, and then install your own.

Those beds will run you upwards of $2k depending on who/how it is made, so plan that into your expenses.

Have that seen to much HD use? Probably.. Just think of exactly what you are planning on using it for, and then figure that the guy before you did the same thing.

To get an estimate of new, go to edmunds.com. For Ford, you can choose an F350 XL chassis and delete the pickup box for about $665. The XL trim line (not Lariat) gets you a basic one ton chassis with rubber mats, vinyl seats, etc -- a real work truck without any of the trimmings. Add options as you need them. Don't know if Chev or Dodge offer this option, but the XL option for a real work truck is still available at Ford. Sometimes it is as cheap or cheaper to special order from any Ford dealer than to hassle with purchasing the exact used chassis you want.

A used truck, due to sales tax issues since it will be exported to the USVI, would be a good choice, but are there really that many available?

Seems to me that real work trucks are used until they have a LOT of miles on them and are more or less one for. Sure there are used trucks available from big hat no cattle type folks tht want a big fancy truck for showoff purposes.. but these are usualy decked out with too much stuff.

If you have any suggestions of where I can find decent used work grade 3500 type trucks used with low miles, Id appreciate knowing!

Thanks!

Your comments are precisely why I ended up special ordering an F350 back on 1995. I looked all over Kansas City and found that good, used F350 crew cabs commanded a premium on the market so I was better off special ordering new. You may have the same problem. I would also look at truck/ag dealers out in the farming communities. Not sure that stake trucks will be found in any great numbers in the suburban areas. If you are near Fort Dix, it is possible that you might pick up a well used stake truck from a GSA/National Guard auction. One ton stake trucks get used for range support in many locations. However, they will have high miles and may not be diesel.

I don't know where you live, but if you are in the Pacific North West I can build you a new truck to your specifications.

Just PM me what you are looking for, and I can get you a few prices.

FYI: You cannot order 2006 250/350 trucks anymore, and the 2007 will not be available until Jan 2007 when they are redesigned.. (and the new 6.4 diesel is released)

Thanks for the offer... unfortunately we're on the east coast and need to ship it from Miami.

I appreciate the offer... if only geography wasnt an issue!

Best regards,

JMH
