stainless steel oil filter?

It looks like the SS filters all filter down to 35 microns, according to their sites. I'm wondering is this small enough? Anyone?

I've never tried one. I have been concerned about the filtering ability in microns vs. conventional filter media. Kinda like a K&N air filter for oil? I realize the conventional oil filter will likely be in bypass while the oil is cold, but when it warms up and thins out you get the benefit of good filtration. When I stut the bike off, the oil was hot and thin, and filtered well. Do I care if the paper filter is in bypass while it warms up with prior well filtered oil. I dont expect a lot of dirt introduction while the bike was setting.

35 microns...

No way. You can get a Supertrch filter at WalMart that will give you 19-20. Harley Davidson specs 5 microns for their TC engines.

Ok all you oil filter experts start the flamer

That is because all the 25-30 micron metal hand grenades are passing right through it...

My knowledge of oil/filter and what not, has grown leaps and bounds since visiting this site. The answer to the question of "is 35 microns small enough" is [censored] No!

those filters are a nascar race track item. they do not filter well enough for a street engine. They were recomended by Smokey due to paper ones aerating the oil at consistant race condition high rpms, the ss mesh ones do not. a web search will bring this up.
other parts of the engine have higher restriction than an oil filter during cold engine startup. Pre-heat your oil pan if this is a worry.
Just more snake oil for the street, like K&N air filters, 180 degree thermostats, etc.
The money out of your pocket will vary.

I use a S/S FULL FLOW oil filter called "Purepower" they say the screen is a 25 micron absolute screen, so the largest particle will be a 25 micron, and will catch down to 5 microns, as the filter "loads" up like an air filter.
The filter is a little pricy, but is a work of art, and made from billet, they also say there is a HP increase because of the lower restriction in the oiling system.
I use Purepower oil filters in both my Ducati race bike, & Victory cruiser.
At 7500 mi in my Ducati, I built my top-end, the stock piston, cams, & cylinder bore were in "PERFECT" condition!
I believe in good oil, oil & air filters.
