Sta-Lube Gear Oil Quality

Before searching for a GL4 gear oil for my Muncie transmission, I had never heard of Sta-Lube gear oil. I am wondering what the quality of this gear oil is for those of you who know more about the brand or have used it before? Is it considered good quality gear oil or are people just forced to use it because it is basically the only dino GL4 gear oil out there. Would you put it in your manual transmission? I didn't find any comments about it either way from any UOA. thanks for the help

several moons ago, when the Ford trucks first started spec'ing the rear differentials for synthetic 75w-140 gear oil only, the only thing I could find in the local OTS stores was Sta-Lube brand.
Having not heard of it much before and being skeptical I too shied away from it. Someone else though posed the question here, and actually it is supposed to be a fairly decent brand, one I think primarily concerned with industrial use. So, though I still have not used it yet, I would not dismiss using it now.

I`ve had Sta Lube GL4 in my transmission for a few months now. I find that dino works MUCH better than the synths I`ve tried in my car`s transmission(smoother shifting and quieter bearings). I`m trying to find the Pennzoil Gear Plus since it was the original OEM fill for my car.

I found out about the Sta Lube on a Corvette forum. They swear by dino manual transmission oils.

I know that you are referring to the Sta-Lube GL-4, which I can't comment upon personally, but have heard positive comments.

I can say that I an satisfied with the Sta-Lube Syn-Go 75W-140 in heavy loading applications. I have used it labeled as-follows in 2 formulations-

1 quart jug:
PAO
alkyl sulfide
phosphoric acid ester
amine salt
carboxylic ester
mineral oil

2 quart jug:
PAO
hexanedioic acid diisooctyl ester
1-decane
sulfurized 2-methyl 1-propene

aquariuscsm, I wouldn't try to hard looking for Pennzoil GearPlus. I was told directly from Pennzoil the other day that the Non Syn Gear Plus GL4 has been discontinued. The only GL4 that they sell now is the 75w-90 synthetic. You might be able to find some leftover at a distributor near you but it won't be around for long. I found some at a distributor up here in Pa, but they only had 5 gallon pals of it left. Don't need that much! As for the GL4 synthetic, they told me it was around $18-$20 a qt. No thanks!
Other then the Sta-Lube, I can't find any other companies that still make a non synthetic GL4 gear oil.

I've used StaLube products periodically over the last 20 years. Currently have the GL-4 in the Nissan Frontier manual transmission. No obvious problems and I'll most likely use it again in the future.

You`re absolutely right. I called Pennzoil today and they referred me to several distributors who in turn referred me to others and no one has it. BUT,out of all the GL4 gear oils I`ve tried (Redline,RP,Sta Lube,and Nissan MTF) Sta Lube has been the best with Nissan 75W85 MTF coming in second. It`s a GL4 manual transmission oil can buy at any Nissan dealership.
