I drained the Sta Lube GL4 85W90 (I saved it and poured it back into the original jug just in case I need it again) and installed the Sta Lube GL4 SAE 140. I really can`t tell much of a difference between the two so far. Shifting is still perfect,no grinding or crunching, but it`s probably too early in the game to tell 100%.

The main thing I notice between Sta Lubes 85W90/SAE 140 and the RL MTL,is that with the MTL I was still getting some 1st to 2nd gear crunch/grind. To best describe it..........when you shift from 1st to 2nd it feels like it`s slipping over the synchro and not matching the gears up and crunching into 2nd. With both Sta Lube`s,it won`t let me shift it into 2nd overly fast. When I pull the shifter from 1st to 2nd,it feels like the synchro is stopping the shifter for a second and then allowing it to go into 2nd gear thus not grinding or crunching. Does that make any sense at all? I`m guessing that`s the way my manual transmission is supposed to operate. Maybe the thicker gear oil is all I needed????????

OK experts,what`s the verdict?

FWIW that's exactly the way my 280zx trans felt with Sta Lube GL4 85W90 .. couldn't shift too quickly into 2nd. I'm not sure how similar the two transmissions are -- I had the Nissan one though, not the BW T5 they put in the Turbos.

Unfortunately Nissan didn`t use the T5 in the Z32s. Whoever makes the transmission is a huge mystery on all the Z forums. There`s been a lot of bad issues with them. Same as well on the Z33s.
