2008 Nissan Sentra 2.0 - Approximately 27k on the car. This filter was used through two OCI's. After the first OCI, I removed, inspected and re-installed the filter for almost another 6k.

Looks like an ST.

Why would you remove a 2.00 filter and not install a new one??? I think thats well over the ST limits IMO.

How much media do you feel is adequate?

Because I am curious...

Clearly over it's limit...

I don't use ST exclusively and I don't run them for that long, but I think you got your money's worth.

Any chance of measuring it and reporting it? Be nice to compare it with other brands. I think I have seen filters with the pleats packed a little closer.

Yes it could have probably went another 52 miles.

The service should dictate the limits of the filter. If he's doing 11k in a short enough span, then there's really no reason why the filter should be saturated. It probably doesn't have quite the holding capacity of a more expensive filter ..but neither does it have the particle trapping ability. The intermediate oil change reset the particle count in the sump.

The number of cold starts loaded that filter. The lion's share of his driving didn't add much to the filter's loading.

+1 I'd certainly feel more confident using that ST than an ecore if I were using it for 2 OCI's .

That said, looking at cost-benefit, for $2.50 I'd change it out @~5k or when I changed the oil. To each their own, but that would be my comfort level for that filter.

Thanks for the pics.

I get sick of seeing this all the time. They were a great idea in the 40's

Then don't read it or draw attention to it all the time.

Strange isn't it, how all the higher end oil filters no matter the manufacturer, and list is long, have metal endcaps. Even OC of D maker Fram thinks so with the Xtended guard. All the oil filters designed for extended OCI's have metal endcaps.

If it was a great idea in the 40's and it still is, guess I'd call it a timeless design.

So you and a few others are free to endlessly flog Purolator, metal end caps, and dome end bypasses, but nobody should dare to say otherwise?

thanks for the pics. the st7317 filter i used in the past has metal endcaps and I wouldn't hesitate to use for 5k after seeing these pics with double the mileage!
