Sqealing coming from the engine compartment

Well, I took in our '94 Chrysler Concord to have some belts changed and because the PS fluid was leaking. They changed a couple accessory belts and put a new PS hose on. When I got the car home I started it the next day and there was some very loud squealing coming from what seemed like the PS pump or the belts or somewhere in the vicinity of the PS pump.

I sucked some of the new PS fluid out thinking it was the PS pump making the noise and put in some ARX and also some Lucas PS stop leak which is a very thick goopy liquid. I also sprayed some belt dressing on the new belts thinking maybe they were slipping. Nothing got rid of the squealing. I finally gave up and took it back to my mechanic. He told me he replaced the alternator bearing(s) and that the PS pump was fine. Sometimes it just isn't what you think it is. At least I didn't need a new alternator or a new PS pump.

That car is going bye bye soon, I'm tired of replacing stuff and going back and forth to my mechanic. Let the next guy futz with the dang car, I've had enough.

First of all, changing the assessory drive belt is not going to stop the leak, but maybe the new hose will.

Does your Chrysler have one single serpentine belt or several separate belts?

You need to make sure that the belt, PS hose, and PS pump itself are all dry with no fluid on them. Grab hold of the belt and check to see if it has one inch of deflection either way. Anymore than that, and it is too loose.

This wasn't a request for advice it was just a story to tell. The PS pump was leaking so I got the hose replaced and it fixed the leak. I also had the accessory belts changed at the same time and it must have put some new stress on the alternator bearing causing it to squeak. The alternator is near the PS pump so I thought that the squealing was coming from the PS pump. The PS pump is now quiet and so is the alternator bearing. No leaks, all is well...
