Yes, I finally put in a new alternator today. That eliminated about 90% of the problem. My gut tells me that the remaining 10% may be the age of the car (12+ years) and the mileage (186,000). Thanks for all the great advice everyone - it was and is greatly appreciated!!

um sorry I was responding to the thread, but waited to long and other poeple posted before me.
