spraying inector cleaner inside manifold

Get some good ol' naptha type solvent, carb. cleaner, pull the air filter and housing off, crank the engine. With one hand, control the throttle and the other, spray the carb. cleaner down the throat. Can be a bit dangerous, just be careful. A good carb. cleaner will clean the residues and carbon off upon contact, no waiting. The engine will spit and sputter, but control the speed with your hand on the throttle linkage on the engine. This way, your only cleaning the intake chambers, not the actual injectors themselves.

thats the inside of my head

the intake manifold goes on top of that. for your pleasure. but thats not my car hehe.

well im going to be getting a new intake manfold soon. well used. im upgrading mine to the same engine but just one with dual runners (10 more hp...). so i guess ill soak it and then pressure wash it and repeat the process. ill clean the butterflies and the EGR ports at the same time, basically bringing it back to life from the factory.

then ill clean the outside of it and polish it =).

thats my upper manifold. the one that im swapping in, it will be about a month after i get it to clean, prep, and polish the exterior to match my engine bays cleaness.

Just for your enjoyment

this is the butterflies that are controled by a diaphram. this is what im swapping it to and why its soo special. mine has 4 ports while this has 8.

dual runners came on 91 se and 92-93 ex/se. it was the f22a6 motor that had it and put down 140 hp vs 130 for the f22a4, and 125 for the f22a1...half was exaust piping though.

 -

fully open, controled by that diaphram on the right
 -

standard, the 4 rectangular holes without the butterflies are on f22a4, f22a1. hella small huh!!

 -

butterflies closed...probably under 4700 rpm (when it opends)

 -

this is the lower intake manifold for it...the f22a4, a1 would only have 4 chambers vs 8
 -

upper intake plentum....where the throttle body connects
 -

inside the engine, thats the diaphram under the red arrow
 -

tada!
