Well, 20K miles ago I had the Valve cover off my car to change the timing belt... and that was spotless under there... Just Oil and metal... no junk or dirt....

Today, I changed my oil pan... 11 years in salted roads made it look tough on the outside, so I swapped it out... Inside, it's the same thing... clean, clean clean.

This is not happening by any magic means... I'm just using Federated house brand oil (WPP), and their filters by Hastings.

The car is a 2001 Zetec Ford Focus. I think the rest of the car will fall to rust before the engine wants to cash in.

Good small engine, normal oil changes with any certified oil in grade.......people here worry too much about oil. Just like I used to when I joined!!!!

My 03' Ford Focus (2.3L Duratec) is the same....a very good small engine....and clean as can be after 107,000 miles.

Have used only 5w20 synthetics, since I bought the car with 57K on the OD. Currently using PP (last two changes), but will switch to Mobil 1 0w20 at the next OCI. If M-1 works well, I will stay with it for awhile.

Have used mostly PureOne filters, and a Mobil EP filter twice.

Sorry, no pics, nothing to prove...

I'm just using conventional 5w20... It's always been API spec stuff. Works just fine.

And... like a good little boy, I recycle my oil. Well, I put it in the AutoPartStore's recycle container... where it goes from there is anyone's guess.

LOL, stuff is perfect too, and I have a 2.3L Duratec, so :P Mazda made good stuff for me

You got to love it when you get a nice surprise like that...sounds like the internals are not your problem for long life. Are you doing anything "extra" that would contribute to this?

Two OCI's with PPennzoil Conventional plus MMO then run what ever SN rated synthetic you want and your engine will be spotless .

Just curious!!

My average OCI is about 7,500.....although I had one OCI of very near 10,000 (on Mobil 1 5w20).... due to several long highway trips (2000 R/T) down to Southern California.

I have a 1996 Contour with the Zetec engine, bought new in 12/95. After the first oil change I went to "synthetic" oil. I usually kept the OCI to 5,000 miles or 1 year. Later in it's life, since 2004 I've been using using Schaeffer's Blend with LCD's LC20 added for the oil. The OCI's have ranged from over 5,000 miles to over 8,500 miles for a one or two year period OCI. Looking in the valve cover the valve train is almost spotless, factory new looking. This engine burns no noticable oil. It has about 93,000 miles, very few "locally" only driving miles. My commute to work is 20 miles RT and the rest of my driving is secondary highways and major highways. It is garaged in the winter, hence no rust.
