K&N never responded to my questions directly. After two attempts with Champion Labs, I got this response through Champion, from a K&N Programme Manager:
My Questions:
1. From K&N's website: "The solid construction allows for oil flow rates between 12-16 gpm (depending on filter size)". Tell me please the conditions under which this was determined, including oil viscosity, oil temperature, pump pressure. Conventional or synthetic oil, or a technical standard oil that is not a motor oil? What kind of test bed was used to determine this, and how closely does it mirror actual engine conditions?
2. What is the flow for the HP 2009?
3. At what pressure is the bypass valve rated to open in the HP 2009?
Champion's reply:
The test performed is an industry test used by all oil filter manufacturers. It is the SAE HS-806 test. The oil used is non-synthetic 30 wt. and it is tested at 180 degrees F. The flow rate is 3 GPM and the test is terminated at 8 PSID. The HP-2009 flowed 16 GPM with a 6.8 PSID, 10 GPM with a 4.0 PSID, and 4 GPM with a 1.3 PSID. The HP-2009 opens its bypass valve at 8 - 11 PSID.

I have been using this filter. Since there is a developing consensus that flow may be paramount to efficiciency, that aspect was the focus of my inquiry.
Looking forward to correlating this information somehow with Bob's testing.
