sparkplug wire routing on the Dodge 5.3,2002

Ok,did a tuneup, then things were not quite rite, so I read up on plugwire routing and solved a problem. I had nicecely tywraped my plugwires side by side to look nice.( DONT DO THAT ON A CHRYSLER ENGINE BECAUSE OF SPARK JUMPING I CALL IT ) So I ran each wire on its on and separated from the others and if I crossed another wire it was at a right angle as such + . I even ran the ignition coil wire along the top of the valvecover so it was way off from the plug wires. As they all came together on the distributor i used plastic sheilding to stop any spark jumping. U can run ur engine at nite they say and if u have bad plug wires u mite see arcing in ur wires.
There are diagrams on the net to show how plug wires should be run, it does makke a difference.
 
I like to take the outer insulation off my old wires and double it up in any areas where the wires might touch each other, or something grounded, or the engine cover itself when it is replaced.

These vans are hard on SP wires due to the lack of air flow around the engine inside the cover. I have a set of 35$ Taylor 8mm which have lasted many times longer than any other brand I have tried in this application.
 
most, if not all chrysler v-8 have #5 and #7 next to each other on the left bank, also #5 and #7 are next to each other on the distributor, AND the plug firing order is next to each other. what can happen is the spark can jump from one plug wire to the other, if they are next to each other. because of this never run #5 and #7 wires next to each other, always run the wires at 90 degrees to each other. ok ok dumb me iam still thinking in the past. what just said will NOT be true for the new engines. dumb, dumb, dumb

Interesting point about not tie wrapping the spark plug wires together, it got me to thinking. We deal with high voltage at work and I've learned a few things about high voltage wiring. I wouldn't have thought about spark plug wires but your post got me to thinking about it. Two wires together have capacitive coupling, you got a conductor, an insulator, and another conductor, basically a capacitor. When you route them side-by-side, the capacitive coupling increases. The pulse of electricity in one wire induces a voltage in the other wire. This happens regardless of the insulation condition, so it will happen even with brand new "perfect" wires. I imagine it could even induce a weak spark in the spark plug connected to the adjacent wire (there's the coil in the mix too, I'm not sure how that would affect things). Ah, just a few thoughts...
