So 15k miles ago or so, around 118K miles anyway my Sparkplug wire set broke/wire came from connector to sparkplug, in turn my coil pack in my truck broke,
anyway, they were Autolite "Professional Series" wires, so naturally I replaced them with the same thing, as AAP here had those and XACT available at the time (a time before knowing of Looking online/asking my options, just getting whatever they pulled up)
anyway fast forward to today, driving down the road to work at 5am, stop at a light, turns green and I go, boom, cant go over 45 or so MPH without shaking, rattling, and yeah not good.
Got to work, low and behold the 3rd cylinder spark plug wire was dry rotted? well cracked and the wires were bare. Yay. Luckily I have my toolbox on my bed, and inside the roadside emergency thing I put together in it is one of the old autolites I took out the first time. snapped it on, all is well now..
I am furious, Ive gone through 2 sets of these things, (the first was put on by the Ford Dealer? Autolite used to be made by Ford I guess, cheaper than MC) at a 75k tuneup, with MC plugs.
at 118K I changed both the wires and the plugs, with the same Autolite Garb and Autolite Double Platinums.
at 119k I changed out the Autolite DP (Returned to AAP) with NGK Vpowers, truck automatically felt more responsive, more get-go and everything, okay all is well
135k miles now, I end up having to replace the wires.
Went into AAP, told them Look, I dont want Autolite or Motorcraft wires, they were like okay, we have XACT and NGK but we have to order the NGK plugset direct, for 27.99 + 6.00 shipping, the manager was like "wow, this is amazing, I remember you the first time, and yeah this isnt the first time we have had problems with Autolite Wiresets or plugs"
So anyway, she waived the shipping cost so it was 27.99 flat and she ordered a few more for backstock for others. I had to get some simply green, shoprags, gojo, anyway, brought me to 43$, cool I have a coupon with the month flyer find something for 7$ more get 10$ off, yay.
She then told me for my hassle she would take $$ off of Sparkplugs,
the BITOGer in me was like "Sure maam, whatcha got in Platinum?"
LOL,
Left there with a 27.99 NGK wireset (with free shipping), a thing of Simply Green, a bottle of GOJO, a roll of shop towels, andd 4 DENSO Platinum TT plugs (marked down from 2.99 ech to 1.99 each)
Total?
was 53-54 something
down to 42 something after coupon
AND she said I could bring the old wires back when the new ones come in
so yeah, I dont really need plugs now, as these have 15k or so on them at a 30K plug
but I might just do a full swap and keep the NGK's as backups or whatever.
/end rant
