What is everyone using for replacement spark plugs in thier Hemis. The maintence schedule calls for 15,000 mile changes, I think this is excessive and am going to do a 25,000 mile change on the factory plugs. there are 16 plugs, two per cylinder. I wanted to go with either Platinum or Iridium plugs and push the next change to 100,000 miles(75,000 on the plugs) is anyone else doing this or tried the Platium plugs? I cant believe Dodge is still using copper plugs with a 15,000 mile interval unless there is a reason. This truck although a 3/4 ton sees no serious service. Its a Family/ occaisional hauler of dirt bikes truck. Thanks,

Copper plugs are a better conductor.

Most plat plugs still have a copper core. But I'm pretty sure plat is a better conductor than copper.

They just might have a good reason. They know about all the plugs available and longer intervals are better for the owner. Maybe they just want you back in the service line more often. Have you tried an Hemi forums? What do they say?

Check out the www.dodgeforum.com. They have raging debates on the best plugs for a Hemi. Seems like just about every plug has been tried. About the only plug that more folks seem against are the Bosch +2 and +4 plugs. The Champion truck plug , NGK v-power, and various Iridium plugs seem to get the nods more than most.

I really love iridium plugs, and I'll bet you could go 50,000 on a set in such a demanding engine application without a problem.

Thanks, Its the point that there is 16 plugs and thier isnt just a boot but a plug distribtor to unbolt to get to each set. I tried those truck plugs,(on another truck) I couldnt tell a difference. I think they are regular plugs with a different paint scheme. I did try Champion platium and it made a big difference in the same truck. Ill check out that Dodge site. I am trying to get a extended interval without losing performance. I think 15,000 is too soon for any plugs copper or otherwise. I just bought some Autolite Platium for my company truck, I didnt put them in yet, but they were dirt cheap. I want to see if they are any good, anyone else try them?

I have used the Bosch regular & +4 Platinums, the Autolite XP Extreme, NGK Iridiums, and the "traditional" Champion coppers & double platinums across all sorts of vehicles. So far, only the Bosch +4 were a notable disappointment. All the others worked the same. The Iridiums lasted the longest (130k mi - Champion iridium w/platinum pads still looked good)and I never let coppers run longer than 60k mi (they looked surprisingly good when pulled). I'm currently using the Autolite XP Extremes in everything--Ram 1500 Hemi included with no problems to report. Longest run with them is a little over 40k mi in a Dodge 3.8L v6. I'm a real OCD guy when it comes to maintenance--overdoing by most standards. But, I can't tell the difference between any of the plugs other then longevity. The only advice I follow is: stay away from gimmick plugs, Iridium with platinum ground pads last the longest, and good wire sets are as important as plugs.

BTW, the 05 Hemi in the Ram pickups spec's 30k mi change intervals for severe service. Not sure where the 15k comes from.

I have recently seen a Hemi on a dino with either set of plugs hooked up on different runs engine made same power regardless if dual sparked or single sparked regardless of which plug sparked. So follow engine manual recs and don't worry. By the way it was HOTROD mag where I read this...
