Spark plug brand discussion

I prefer basic NGKs in the Saturns. I have used Champion copper plugs as well. I have nothing against the performance of the platnum plugs. However, I like to change my plugs every 15k-20K miles to maintain performance and make certain they do not become siezed in the aluminum heads.

What is so wrong with autolite spark plugs?
dunno.gif
Is it because they are made by the same people that make fram junk? Is there a real issue here or is it just personal preference?
I have used autolite on many of my vehicles and they have worked just great.
If i am missing something here please advise because there are plenty of other brands (Champion,Ac,Bosch super etc) to chose from.

In my experiences, the plugs burned out ASAP, and the wires either had their clips break off on the plug, or they were faulty and caused a lot of sparking/ground arcing in my engine bay, which is a fire risk. The stuff is too expensive and doesn't last. If you want cheap ignition parts, get Napa Belden wires and Champion copper plugs.

I've used the following spark plugs in my 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo I6:

Champion copper(OEM) ...worked well-didn't last long

Bosch platinum +4...rough idle-hard startup-can't adjust gap-got rid of them

Autolite platinum...hard startup-didn't last long

Bosch Supers copper...worked great-easy startup-smooth idle-lasted very long(replaced at 30K)

Champion Truck plugs copper...currently installed-work great-smooth idle-easy startup-hopefully will last long(going on 20K)

I have used the Champion Gold Truck plug on 5 Jeeps I service...they will work great for about 3 years then you will get a slight miss at idle and it's time to change em' out...changing plugs on the Jeep 4.0L six is a piece of cake anyway

Some brands just seem to work best in some engines. That fact probably has to due with chamber design ie charge swirle pattern. I assume that the manufactures test their engines with the plugs that come with that engine. I therefore tend to stick with the plugs that came with my new car unless I find I'm having trouble with them. ed

The only plug I've had fail was Bosch single platinum plugs. I had 3 develop an open circuit, I think the internal resistor burned up. I've never had any problems with A/C, champion, Beru, Autolite, or NGK. The best plugs I used were the ultra fine tip NGK's that were OEM in my 93 Maxima. After I pulled them from the Maxima I used them in an oil burner that rapidly fouled plugs. They were much more resistant to oil fouling than standard plugs in the same heat range. They were platinum plugs but looked like the new Iridium plugs.

ebaker, i believe the really fine tipped plats are called "g-power platinum" from NGK. The only one finer from them is the iridium i think. The laser plats aren't as fine as the g-powers.
