Spark plug analysis

Trying to analyze plugs on a street driven vehicle is a fool's errand. Sure, you can see gross problems like oil burning (sometimes even that is tough to see), gross rich conditions, blasted electrodes due to preignition, etc.

There are too many variables to diag minor rich/lean conditions on a street car. Lot's of cold running, of course the plugs will look darker. Different add packs in different brands of gas? Same thing. MTBE, ethanol? Once again it throws off any diag. The type of gasoline additives greatly effect deposits.

Not a d*mned thing wrong with the plug in the opriginal post. It looks axactly in the range of what I would expect a plug to look like in a vehicle of that mileage.

Yeah. Looks like deposits on the side of the electrode, or asymetric wear on the tip facing the ground electrode. Either way, for 82K miles on that plug, it looks OK.

I still don't see what the big problem is.
