Ouch! That looks expensive. It appears to have started at the top of the missile just under the payload. I wonder if an escape system for the payload could have lifted if free and saved it.
I wonder who pays the failure ? Space-X has insurance for each launch ? Last year Space_X rocket exploded while carrying something to the ISS(International Space Station) for NASA, who paid for all those expenses(Rocket + ISS part(s) ...) ?
We have been sending stuff into Earth orbit since the late 1950's.....Its 2016!!! Failures like this should be past History by now....I feel sending humans back into space is a risky deal again.
This is still rocket science and economics demands increased payloads at lower costs so...

There are different types of insurance for launch (liability, payload, launch vehicle, etc). Only liability is required. Payload is paid by satellite owner. Launch vehicle by Space X.
However, there are a lot of hot articles and news items/twitter right now that maybe this accident wasn't insured because it was prelaunch accident.

Insurance is just ... insurance. You either pay more on average and get paid once in a while, or you skip it and on average you save some money. For the size of Facebook, they are better off not having an insurance. SpaceX really depends, if they file a claim their next insurance gets more expensive.

Well Zuckerberg could have put a GM label on it instead so people would say its just business as usual. Facebook,is that still around?? I dont do social media,I dont socalize.But Im a Bitog'er,I scrutinize lol.
